"For more than a decade, Dr. Hazel has served as my primary care physician. In addition to an incredible intellect and ability to problem solve, she is the first doctor who has treated me as an entire person - mind, body and soul. She asks the right questions and tough questions and practices both the art and science of medicine. With a fabulous sense of humor, deep level of care, and incredible knowledge-base, I am forever grateful to have her as my doctor. She is one of a handful of people on the planet who truly understands me and wants to see me thrive in all aspects of my life! She is a true class act, both as a person and a medical doctor." -- Katie Erickson
I am a licensed naturopathic physician who has been in family practice since 1998. Nature heals. Working intelligently with Nature to assist self-healing is the role of a naturopathic doctor, yoga and qi gong instructor.
I rely on nutrition, plant medicine, lifestyle practices, yoga, qi gong, subtle body energy counseling, bodywork, hydrotherapy, and other forms of natural medicine to enhance the healing capacity in the individual.
While preventative medicine is the ideal, often what is needed is a careful and thorough analysis of the unique history, symptoms, and character of the illnesses that where not prevented and now must be reversed or managed.
Taking the time to understand and then explain symptoms and their causes is part of my work. Understanding the true nature of a disease or symptom can helps us design a treatment plan that does more than manage or suppress the symptoms, but which might actually correct the imbalance at a fundamental level -- where the problem originated from.
I have been a full-time professor of clinical and academic studies at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine for a decade and served as Interim Chair of General Medicine and on the SCNM Board of Trustees. I have taught in massage schools and medical imaging programs, and have additional training in acupuncture, Qi Gong, Oriental Medicine and various massage techniques from the Oregon School of Massage and the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. I am a certified Yoga Instructor and registered with Yoga Alliance. I am a graduate of the National College of Naturopathic Medicine's Qi Gong Certificate Program. I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Eastern Connecticut State University and a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from The National College of Naturopathic Medicine.
Through private practices, formal classroom teaching, teaching in medical centers, seminars and talks I have taught and treated thousands of students and patients over two decades in natural medicine.
Central to my philosophy is that we have more inherent power to heal and transform ourselves and our world than most of us are aware of. We are certainly not using even a fraction of that potential. My deepest desire is to have each one of us actualize that power. If we can unlock that power we will benefit more than just ourselves. We can become a force of balance and change and grace on the planet.
